A machine that could have paved the path of growth π
In the early 1980s, the printing and packaging industry was making a mark in the capital city of tamilnadu, southindia
Me and my brother can be called as early entrant entrepreneurs in this industry
Having found our base in this line of business, my brother decided to take a bold step by investing in a large size four color offset printing machine
Imported offset machines were ruling the market in those years as there were limitations in technology for Indian make machines
Amidst a conservative entrepreneurship prevailing in those years, opting to invest in the first machine as huge as this 4 color offset printing was a daring move indeed
Technically, this machine was capable of printing large format multicolored printing subjects under 1/4 th of the standard printing time taken by single color offset printing machines
This was a game changing factor as it provided the leverage of competitive pricing, faster production, less wastage and better quality
This machine safely travelled across oceans to reach the doorstep of its destination, only to topple down at the last moment and impact the future of the young entrepreneurs
Neither the machine nor the entrepreneurs, that's us, ever could recover from this fall as the impact was deep and disastrous
Despite my brother's dedicated efforts to recover from this setback by managing to run the machine with limitations, sustainability was quite challenging
Soon it was time to roll the curtain down and there ended the possibility of a rapid growth in that vertical
In entrepreneurship, if the first failure is of a massive scale, it naturally scales down the self confidence of the entrepreneur
And that's precisely what happened in our case too and but for the second large scale failure that happened a few years later
We would've managed to still grow at a rapid pace to make our mark in the space of printing and packaging
A single machine can change the future π we learnt twice in the hardway
Well, history could've been different, but for the misfortune π
