In Ruins!

I read a post on social media about a group of youngsters making efforts to restore a temple in ruins

While my thoughts were on these youngsters yeoman service, my mind simultaneously began to ponder on the state of the temples

Hardly 20km away from the place of this temple in ruins is a famous temple with an average footfall of 2500 to 3000 visitors per day

The main deity of both the temples was the same God but with different names and the folk songs sang the tale of these temples

The temple left to ruin was built much earlier than the famous one and it was raised to honour the fierce God who had saved the lives of the locals from an invading powerful enemy

Till 300 years ago, this temple was a very famous and large number of pilgrim's & visitors used to worship here

Around that time, for 2 years there was a severe famine and despite continuous pleas and poojas to the temple deity, a large number of people had died

On the advice of the chieftain who was also the local priest, the current famous temple main deity was installed to save the tribe

Sooner upon the inauguration of the new temple, the sky opened to pour and thereon the agriculture crop was good

Hence the locals began to visit the new temple and the old temple was neglected

Over the years the township flourished around the new temple and the old temple faded from memory

The last lamp that was lit in the old temple was some 200 years earlier and since then even the priests had to stay away due to financial constraints

But for this group of enthusiastic youth, the old temple might have completely collapsed in a few more years

Inwardly I smiled at the thought of 'if such is the treatment meted out to God for want of favours'

Imagine the treatment for fellow humans, no wonder people neglect those who are financially ruined

Because 'favours to ask is ruled out, favours asked will also be ruled out'

God or human, so long are in the position to favour can remain famous, else will be left to fade away

Unlike a temple in ruins, a human in ruins shouldn't wait for a team of youth to uplift rather must put in self efforts to restore the times of glory🙏🏼
