Is tourism evolving?

Happy Tourism Day

As an active member in the tourism sector for the past 4 decades

I would say that tourism indeed is on the progressive mode with respects to the younger generation opting to be a traveller than a tourist

Till the year 2000, vacation was more focused on visiting places of tourist importance with a fixed travel itinerary of covering all the listed tourist spots

It was more of a mechanical method of travelling which lacked to ignite the exploring mind of the travellers to search for those offbeat places to connect better with the native flora and fauna

Millennials made a difference in the method of tourism by choosing to explore and be a traveler who seek to stay closer to nature than to be a common tourist who prefer the comforts of a package tour

Pandemic in a way improved the awareness towards natural resources, environment and the need to be a nature conservator to protect whatever was left in nature 🌿

The past few years are witnessing an increased activity in adventure and farm tourism whereby, the patronage for outdoor activities and farm stays is on the upswing

Staycations, Workcations and so on...are the new terms in tourism which focuses on responsible and sustainable tourism to protect the environment and as well pave the way for a healthy growth in tourism sector

Focus on promoting farmland projects assists in eco-friendly developments and reconnecting the upwardly mobile generation with farming and agriculture activities

Though revenge tourism pushed people to be on the travel mode, it also revived the struggling tourism industry from the impacts of the pandemic

I for one would say that the tourism sector is quite certainly progressing towards a responsible and sustainable tourism

Happy tourism day 🌿
