PSK Iyer - The Legend

Peravur Srinivasan Krishnamurthy Iyer, aka PSK Iyer, was a tall person not only in stature but by great deeds too

Born as the 3rd child in the line of four brothers at Peravur, a tiny scenic village located in the district of Mayiladuthurai, Tamilnadu, South India

His childhood during the end 19th and early 20th centuries was one of the typical orthodox styles, largely amidst the agricultural environment

Schooling, farming and playing was a package offer which all the children obediently followed in those times

He grew up as a self-made person, the teenage life situations and events inculcated the best qualities in him

Marriages happened at an early age in that time hence he too wedlock(ed) in his 20s, took a job and relocated to yet another small village, 12kms away

Manganallur welcomed the couple and PSK Iyer's life began on a fresh note with his charming, able wife Smt: Vishalakashi Amma

As an estate manager, the couple were provided residential quarters and the estate began to flourish under the able management of PSK Iyer

His personality and good deeds made him famous in a short period, locals began to seek his counsel to resolve issues

As an honest, compassionate and wise person, PSK Iyer's judgements were accepted by one and all

For the wrong monger, he was a terror and for the righteous, he was the pillar

He built a small house to provide a roof for all the souls who looked up at him to care for them

On any given day there were a minimum of 2 dozen hungry stomachs to feed and souls to rest

The couple welcomed all, never complained, treated everyone as their children and as family

To balance the large family needs was a tough task and the expenses towards events, celebrations and functions were very testing

Added to these was the visitors caretaking which by itself was a separate management course

Well if you are a leader and that too with compassion and empathetic qualities, this style of life must be expected

Be the annual temple festival or a government-sponsored function or a wedding or even a small event, none of these happened without the August presence of PSK Iyer

Today even a century later, if you happen to meet someone in their sixties living around Manganallur

The name PSK Iyer will ring a bell which tune will be musical for the right and alarming for the wrong

As a grandson of PSK Iyer am proud but ashamed for lacking his noble qualities and disappointed in not taking his gene
